Kronos sighting: Yes at RnR Hall of Fame
Great performance featuring Geddy Lee on bass...I have just one question: how does Wakeman get those great organ sounds? Running through a real Leslie, perhaps?
OK, two questions: how do you link a YouTube video on this forum?

But Wakeman did not have a Leslie in site on the ARW tour (I was there in Cardiff), so it must have come from the synths or some pedal (like a vent) that was not obvious.

Of course, not seeing a Leslie doesn't mean there wasn't one, either backstage or disguised.
Do you agree that the organ tones he's getting in the video are better than what comes stock out of the CX-3 engine? They sure sound better than what I am used to. I do use a Ventilator.
Here's Wakeman talking about his current rig, where he makes no mention of either Leslies or Vents.

Another rig tour, also no Leslies in sight...

I had a 147 Leslie some decades ago. I am not quite hearing that 'sound ' amplified in the mix.Bitflipper wrote:Plus he does have a full-time synth tech whose job it is to build custom patches. Maybe if programming the Kronos was my full-time job, my CX-3 would probably sound better, too.
If you dig around, I think Rick has someone who does his programming. Get his name and see if he's on Facebook.
I have decent success messaging questions to musicians and receiving answers.
Its the direct approach

thats what google is forBitflipper wrote:Good idea! His live support tech is one Erik Jordan, who is also credited as engineer and/or producer on most of Wakeman's solo and collaborative records, including Journey to the Center of the Earth. That's all I know, and I have no idea how to contact him. I don't do Facebook.
I use FB minimally. I checked for Erik and don't find him on there.
He also use a Hammond SK-73 as part of his rig. There is a couple of videos on the keyboard magazine channel where he goes through his entire rig for the ARW tour.

In all of the stuff I have seen/read on his rig, there is no mention of a hidden Leslie. So it's like ghosts I guess: just because you've never seen one is not evidence that there is one hiding...Bitflipper wrote:Of course, not seeing a Leslie doesn't mean there wasn't one, either backstage or disguised.

If I had to guess, as a later poster mentioned, he has a Hammond SK in hs rig. The one thing I did read about his rig is extensive use is made of MIDI, and just because he is seen playing a particular board it does not mean that that board is making the sound at the time.
So. who knows?

That is my second point above, just because he is playing a board, doesn't mean it is making the sound at that point. It is where he wants to stand.
