Read this: MONTAGE is directly compatible with Motif XF Voices. Yamaha is developing an FM converter to make it compatible with DX7 series Voices as well. _________________ Korg Kronos, RD-88, Yamaha VL1, Deep Mind 6, Korg Kross, author of unrealBook for iPad. |

Here's a good read on the Montage.

Pretty weird about the Part 1 "voice". It sounds like the FM and AWM2 are totally separate so you have to layer in Performance to get both - unlike earlier Yamaha keyboards. _________________ Korg Kronos, RD-88, Yamaha VL1, Deep Mind 6, Korg Kross, author of unrealBook for iPad. |

From what I have heard a DX7 patch conversion utility is coming.
With regards to the sounds: I think the motion sequencer can add a lot of life to the sounds, you can apply it to filter settings etc. and synchronize it to tempo, a great feature to have.
The super knob was applied in the same way in a lot of videos so that it may seem like a one trick pony, but remember it is a macro knob which you can program and apply to any parameter, so it is very versatile and handy.
As Bachus already mentioned, it is not designed to be a workstation, and you have to assess it for what it is designed to do.
It is not Omnisphere, but I can also say that Omnisphere is not a Montage.
Both have their unique characteristics and place.
Whether the Montage is worth the premium price? You decide.
The KRONOS falls in the same price category, and purely based on features alone the KRONOS offers a lot more bang for the buck.
But based on what I heard so far the AWM2 section outshines the HD-1, and the Montage has an 8 operator FM engine onboard as well as some unique soundshaping features of its own.
I have also read that the key width is not the same on the Montage 8 vs. the Montage 7 and 6, and that's a pity and something to bear in mind.
The Montage 8 is very heavy though, it weighs just as much as a Kawai VPC1.
The latter is so heavy because it has real wooden keys, I don't know what makes the Montage 8 so heavy. A thick particle board?
I would not be surprised to see the AWM2 section of the Montage find its way in the successor of the MOXF, eventually. |

Are you sure? That is a huge letdown.
I really doubt a bunch of people are going to sit down and program the FM part like they did when the DX7 came out.
I would write a converter but I'm not sure this keyboard will sell a lot. |
Will be added later this year... |

I hope they'll put it in the OS. |

> But based on what I heard so far the AWM2 section outshines the HD-1,
Isn't this just samples? The Kronos has a bunch of 3rd party libraries so it's really Korg sounds vs Yamaha. That piano does sound good though!
2 operators more than Kronos and more advanced FM is great, but compared to the multiple synths in the Kronos, they do not give me anything more. I disliked the tedious programming that is FM even with the multiple editors that were available.
I like the idea of quick assignments to the knob, that part is cool.
If you even owned an S90 or S90ES, you know why it's so heavy. They are built very sturdy, but it is crazy for taking on gigs! Yes, it's metal and solid particle board and wood side panels etc... _________________ Korg Kronos, RD-88, Yamaha VL1, Deep Mind 6, Korg Kross, author of unrealBook for iPad. |

AWM2 has a lot more options than HD1, e.g. 8 oscillators instead of two. |

8 Layers will eat up polyphony like mad. But unless I am incorrect (which I could be!), the MX series has AWM2. It sounds exactly like any other Motif. All I am trying to say is that the end result still is the difference in samples. It seems a number of keyboards are moving "one level up" with regards to sounds. Using "Performances/Combinations/Stage Settings" more than the basic building blocks.
If we just go by "specs" my Kurzweil beat everyone up a long time ago... But we know the reality. _________________ Korg Kronos, RD-88, Yamaha VL1, Deep Mind 6, Korg Kross, author of unrealBook for iPad. |

The Montage's AWM engine has 128 note stereo polyphony from what I have read. Also I thought I had read that you can load and save flash memory much faster than previously as loading and saving flash memory is quite slow on a Motif XF _________________ Kronos 2 88, Kurzweil Forte |

I'm just saying it isn't entirely fair to equate the two-oscillator HD1 and the eight-oscillator AWM2 in the Motif/Montage. The Kronos also does a ton of things the Yamaha's don't. Credit where credit is due. |

My friend George asked some questions on my behave on NAMM to YAmaha..
2 huge dissapointments.
- The midi, you cant use physical MIDI and MIDI USB at the same time, you need to choose either of them
- There is no Super articulation(2) technollogy in the Montage
In many ways the Montage is a step back, and in many ways my Tyros 5 is more advanced. (32 multitimbral, SA2 voices, Organ emulations, Ensemble voices, double midi) |

Probably for individual voice outputs in performance mode? It would certainly give you more control when recording into a DAW.
It doesn't bother me that Montage isn't designed as a Workstation - I don't use Kronos' sequencer either, but Kronos is also a great keyboard for "performing" on (especially live), so comparing the two seems 100% valid to me.
I don't think Korg will be quaking in their boots _________________ Synth DIY Projects |

Its been confirmed that there is no pattern sequencer.... There however is the motion sequencer that might possible have some or most of the functionallity of the pattern sequencer, we dont know yet
The 16 audio channels are for routing all 16 channels trough VST effects on your DAW, or directly recording all parts of a performance live.. |

Motion sequencing is an entirely different concept than pattern sequencing, I doubt there'd be much (or any) overlap.
Really weird that they cut the sequencer, it was one of the more respected features even by members on this Korg forum. |
