Can anyone with a Kronos 2 comment on the noise of the fan? Is it quieter than the first Kronos?
I sold my K61 because the fan really annoyed me after a while.
Thanks |

Today I got Kronos 2 61.
When I power-on K2, its fan sound was very loud unbelievable,
I was so surprised but it goes silent shortly.
It looked Motherboard's booting sequence.
Anyway, after normal booting finished, it's quieter than KX2. _________________ Kronos-2 61, Kurzweil PC3A8, DS-1H, EXP-2,

I also sold my Kronos 88 because of the fan noise, but I'm thinking of buying a new Kronos 2 if its silent.
I read in the manual that the fan can be set to OFF, but i t will start again automatically if the temperature exceeds 80°C.
The question is when will that happen? |

Most people's original Kronos's seem to run around 50-60 so I imagine it would have be a very hot day with the Kronos in direct sunlight to get near 80.
You can also run the fan at different speeds now, so it could be very quiet while still giving some cooling. |

sounds like we have some sensitive ears
I thought the fan was more OS controlled. I have the original yr 2011 88
On 3.0.2, for my 88, there is no ' off ' for the fan. Its either slow or auto.
The fan goes on immediately at startup, 4 seconds. Half way thru boot up, the fan goes on, sort of a moderate sound. when all files are loaded, the fan goes into slow mode. the fan noise is very slight. my wife, who has excellent hearing, could not even hear the fan noise on ' slow'. My room is very ' live'. 10' x 10'.
If someone can't stand this slight noise, maybe the Kronos is not a good fit.
I think the fan is necessary , to disperse any component heat, in my 88. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

Is the start up time still as long with the '2'? _________________ CURENT GEAR USED LIVE

I answered this in another thread. But boot time of my K2 right now, without anything added into it, is 1 minute 45 seconds. _________________ Bass and keyboard player, not usually at the same time, but sometimes in the same song!

When the temperature gets to 80c, the Kronos displays a message saying the unit needs to cool down, at which point you'll get a very fast noisy fan until it's sufficiently cool _________________ Kurzweil K2700, Korg Nautilus 61, Yamaha MODX6

Please see message about loud fans and buy quiet one. That's what I did. Took 15 mins to complete no noise at all cost £10 _________________ Ohmnisphere

This is not really a concern anymore since the OS 3 release, even for first Kronos, in which the ventilator speed can be slaved to the internal temperature.
Except if you live in very warm area, the ventilator will never speed up, because the temperature stays at about 50/60°C, which is absolutely normal.
I have never replaced my fan, because it was not very noisy, and now, I really need to stick my ear to the Kronos to hear something. _________________ New Timelapse Kronos soundset:

that is what I think. IMO the fan with 3.0 is under the topic " if its not broke, don't try to fix it ' _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

I barely hear it for maybe 15-20 seconds at start-up, then it quiets down and I don't even notice it. To my ears, the Kronos² is anything but noisy.

When i first got KRONOS, i wasnt sure the fan was even on, i couldnt hear any noise, nor could other's.
If i put my ear on the KRONOS, on start up, i can barely detect the fan.
Very happy it isnt noisy. |

My original Kronos is noisy!! I've tried various recommended fans but the temperature was in the 70s so I put the original back in and tend to get 64c - 67c _________________ Kurzweil K2700, Korg Nautilus 61, Yamaha MODX6

I briefly owned a brand new KX 73 a few weeks ago, but it had a defective keybed, so I exchanged it for a K2 88.
The fan in the KX 73 was quite loud. I mean, anyone in the room would notice it easily. It was kind of lowish-frequency and tolerable, but it was really obvious.
Before I returned the KX 73, I upgraded it to 3.0.2, and this did not change the fan noise. I did not tweak any settings.
In contrast, the fan in the K2 88 is almost silent. It's there, but I think most people I know would not even hear it in a quiet room. It seems like I'm always hearing things that other people don't hear....
I'm very happy with this improvement. If you sold a K or KX because of the fan noise, you should give the K2 a look. |
