We have been hearing different news about Kronos going out of stock and dealers confirming parts are not available.

Does that mean we can expect Kronos X2 (or a upgrade to kronos x) in Jan 2015?

Google Port of Los Angeles which was mentioned in a previous thread. Big delays there which means not much of anything will be shipping anytime soon until that gets back to normal

Not to mention with Intel quitting the motherboard market I'm sure there will be some redesigning to do.

Just an exterior restyling

from the software side, any new feature will be available for the older version too

this is a good guess. Korg has sold 15,000-20,000 Kronos'

They and the various partners want to sell the sample libraries to this owner group.

If Korg creates a new flagship, with a new software structure, that will attract Kronos owners to the new flagship, thus the new owners will not be interested in the prior 3rd party libraries.

And the same sample library partners would have to do a costly rewrite for the new board. that would take some time.

Thus, I like the theory to keep the new board software compatible with the Kronos. I think it makes business sense.

I certainly hope so and don't really expect them to want to change too much. However Kronos OS is tied very tightly to the hardware and with Intel quitting the motherboard market they will have to adapt or redevelop core parts of the OS.

As much as it pains me to say it but also maybe just a little more processing power and included ram. The hardware has gotten a bit more affordable, so hopefully it could be possible. I cant ask for a multi-point touch screen, but that could be useful.

Im going to assume that they will continue with the kronos production.(the name might change, it has in the past) Its just going to get some new hardware, potentially upgraded.

You can already play multitrack wavs alongside midi. 16 tracks of each, in fact. You can also time slice offline. Those other mentioned features require expensive algorithms/licenses (like iZotope Radias or Fraunhofer). I don't know if they're really going for a new and expanded Kronos OS.That's anybody's guess I suppose. They'll have to do some work to adapt to new hardware at least.
