Was thinking of implementing USB Audio inside M50 and opened the keyboard.
Below are some pictures of main board and its components.

I have no any knowledges on a hardware at all, but, IMHO, all components for USB Audio are already in place.
However I failed to understand why USB transmition limited to Midi only.
As a guess- Usb Audio is switched off on programming level.

May be it is possible to hack it ? Any ideas on the matter , guys,?

Main Board - top side:

Main Board - bottom side:

Korg chip:

DAC PCM 1793 supports up to 24 bits/192kHz and provides great quality of resulting analog audio signal.
Just wondering, what is the quality of audio samples in M50.... any info ?

Microprocessor MC9328MX1 - provides controllers for almost everything and for USB 1.1 connectivity as well.
So, theoretically, the computer should see M50 as USB audio device due to this chip supports such behavior.
Extract from datasheet:"...From the user’s perspective, the USB module hides all direct interaction with the USB protocol. The registers
allow the user to enable or disable the module, control the characteristics of individual endpoints, and monitor
traffic flow through the module without ever seeing the low level details of the USB protocol.
Even though this module hides all direct interaction with the protocol, some knowledge of the USB is required to
properly configure the device for operation on the bus. ..."

Some other components, may be you guys know what these are for ?:

and let's go back to components on Top side:

USB port type B , guess, with Usb Transiver chip
(sorry, very small, failed to catch it in focus)

You know, as long as you went through the motions of a teardown and pictures, too bad someone couldn't identify the problem capacitors (in the pics, if visible) that cause the freezing issues. G.P.

And, if to investigate matherboard carefully, one can see some holes/places (marked it with red rounds on pictures) which seems to be prepared for something ...just curious what it for:

Dear brother,
Appreciate your interest.
Suggestion, if you open M3 also, then you can easily reach to the conclusion.
Wish you all the best.
B/regards,
Satya

Aside from the hardware, it is impossible to change features etc, because if it is not programmed in software, even if the hardware would su pport it, it will never work.

Unless of course you change the software, but this is impossible (you would need source code etc); also it is illegal to do so.

Thanks Michel for your recommendations,

However, instead of changing software of M50.... i've changed the hardware.

At present I own Roland FA-06 and that is magic gear with all functions I need directly on board and with a huge set of impressive sounds. I'm surprised with myself, but even don't feel any need to tweak presets because all sounds from Roland agree with my understaning/taste of how it should sound.
Even more, I'm still shocked with the fact that Roland produce sounds so authentically to real instruments.

ROLAND RULEZ !!!
