I have just bought a Alesis F2 expression pedal and just cant get it to work. Has anybody used one of these and what TRS lead did you use.

At-a-glance, cuz I'd not heard of this item before, I'd say that if a stereo TRS (tip + ring + sleeve) cable is specified it's a standard model and nothing specially wired or proprietary to Alesis -- just two black rings on the jack vs. the normal one.

If TRS is not specified I would think any guitar style 1/4" phone jack (tip + sleeve) would work.

You do want to read the user guide which, in the on-line literature specifically calls out makers other than Alesis (Korg, Roland, Yamaha), to see if there's a set-up guide included there for those synths.

The main things are:

At the pedal - make sure you're using the correct lead type (TS/TRS).

Make sure the correct jacks - pedal and keyboard - are connected to each other.

In Global menu / controls on the keyboard, make sure that the Expression pedal is ON and assigned appropriately, i.e., to control volume or filter cut-off or some other parameter.

The F2 says it's a volume + expression so make sure that the parameters like potentiometer setting pedal travel and other function parameters are set up correctly. Again, there's probably information in the user guide that outlines some of this. The guide is available on-line from Alesis.com, but requires registration and sign-in.

I'm pretty sure a TS cable style pedal won't work on the Extreme (or any relatively modern Korg).

Not saying the Alesis pedal is a TS one; I wouldn't know.

I had a problem getting any expression pedal to work on my Extreme. I ended up coughing up the $150 for the xvp 10. It's heavy and does't float around on stage - yay! But I did find that after trying all different types of pedals and then finding that one must use a stereo cable with the pedal, and trying all the pedals again, the only one that would work was the korg xvp.
