|
|
I am trying to understand the displayed values in the "Size" Field in the photo below.
This is in "Disk Mode, Page P0:File, 0-1 Load", looking at the "\Factory\Preload.ksc" file.
I have highlighted two examples in the photo:
-- EXs 1 ROM Expansion -- Size 137M (284M)
-- Exs 7 SGX-1 Japanese C Piano -- Size 140M (3.8G)
The appropriate page in the latest Kronos Parameter Guide (E4) would appear to be page 815, but the description of "Size" is "This is the size of the file, in bytes".
QUESTION:
What are the two sizes listed? Is the first the amount of RAM that is used and the second size of the file on the disc?
This would make sense for the SGX piano since it primarily streams from the SSD, using a small amount of RAM. If so, I am confused about the EXs1 ROM expansion which I assumed is fully loaded into RAM?

as far as I know, the first number is what is loaded initially in RAM. This is the amount that needs to be directly available and probably is the start of each sample, enough for reading data for the SSD until it spits out more data.
The second number is the total amount of storage space (on the SSD).
Typically for piano samples, only a short piece of each sample is needed. However, for drum samples there are many more but a lot shorter, so more of this needs to be available instantly. _________________

What is confusing to me are the two sets of ROM numbers.
I had thought the only data that was streamed from the SSD were the SGX pianos and the Ambience Drums. _________________ ** KORG Product Support Contacts **

No, all samples are streamed. At least the builtin samples (provided by Korg). _________________

Another thing that seems weird is EXs4 Vintage Keyboards. Uses 1.3 MB of RAM but takes up less disk space -- 1.2 MB? _________________ ** KORG Product Support Contacts **

Maybe the samples are stored in an efficient way (I don't mean compressed). Some overhead data might be extracted in RAM, like start/end points of samples, information when or what to load depending on what keys or velocities are pressed, meta data about the samples. _________________
