Another Kronos beginner question - hope I'm not asking too many of these, please let me know if it gets annoying!

I'm working on an HD1 electronic drum kit where I want to modulate the cutoff and resonance of a dual filter in realtime (four values in total). I can easily map these to the two joysticks, then adjust them as I play. So far so good.

But what I really want is for these filter settings to change to different randomly selected values just once per bar, or sometimes once per beat. Ideally I would like to trigger the change using the damper pedal, so I can control the timing of filter changes in realtime while I play a rhythm on the keys.

I know how to do this for a single value:

- Set the Common LFO to modulate filter cutoff
- Set Common LFO Waveform to random
- Set Common LFO Stop parameter to On
- Set Common LFO Reset AMS to the damper pedal

Now I get a different random filter cutoff every time I press the damper.

But, there is only one Common LFO, so this is not enough to randomize all four filter control values at the same time.

Maybe I'm just pushing too hard, but I have a nagging feeling that this ought to be possible given enough lateral thinking.

Perhaps this is something Karma could do for me? (that's an area of the Kronos I haven't explored much yet)

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Have you looked at the COMMON STEP SEQUENCER as a possibility? You can set the values to random.

I thought the step sequencer was only available for EXi and not HD1 patches?

I think I figured out how to do this!

- Use combi mode
- Play an HD1 drum program, with no filtering
- Route the resulting audio into an MS20 program
- Use common/hold parameter to infinitely sustain an MS20 note

Now I can use the MS20 common LFO, step sequencer, and S&H patch cables to give me three independent random held filter control values.

Even better, if I split the keyboard so I can trigger new MS20 'notes' at the same time as playing my drum rhythm, I can also set the four regular MS20 LFOs to random S&H mode, giving me a total of seven independent controls! For bonus points, this way I can also use the pitch of whatever MS20 note I am playing as an additional filter control, or turn off sustain to use pressing and releasing these control keys as a gate over the top of my entire drum part.

Cool stuff. Kronos is really powerful!

An interesting solution. Shows how flexible Kronos is when it comes to routing sounds and combining the different engines to accomplish what you have in mind.

Yes do that !
I like your thinking about the routing possibilities.

Others would say "ah f**k make hd1 step sequencable with 1.5!"
and 2 posts later "I wanna 1.5 right now "
