When something is turned on, there's an initial power surge that goes through it... example: if a light bulb is going to burn out, it usually happens when you turn it ON (after it gets old).
We usually keep our computers on all day, never shutting them down both at the office and at home.
So I wanted to extend this question to the Kronos. Should it be kept on all day or should it be shut down when not in use.
Explaining your answers would make an interesting read. |

I shut it down when not in use. Obviously, this would depend on when I would next expect to use it.
Yes, I know cycling is a negative. However, the fan is constantly running, does have a 'life span' and can get noisy over time/use. I'm not sure if this also applies to the screen (not the noise, obviously).
There is also the fact that any electrical item left on and unattended is a, very slight, fire hazard. Yes, I know, what about all the other items in the house/studio left on all the time! _________________ Rhodes 73 Mk1; Kronos 88; Synthex; Electribe EMX-1; Motif XS Rack; Yamaha DX7IIFD; Yamaha MM8; Roland Alpha Juno-2; Roland JV-2080; Tascam FW-1884. |

Couldn't find that.... thanks for pointing it out! I probably would not have posted if I had found those, but since new people are coming aboard every day, I suppose it doesn't hurt to renew the subject. |

I don't normally have the option anyway since my Kronos is constantly on the move! It may stay on for 24-36 hours or so if I'm working at home. _________________ Korg Kronos 88, Trinity Plus, Wavestation SR, X5D, M1

I power it down, unplug it and put my new dust cover on. Then sigh and think

Maybe I'll just have another 10 minutes.
Take the dust cover off etc etc......................... _________________ https://m.youtube.com/user/1967runningman |

I switch it off unless I'm going to use it within an hour or so.
For those 2 minutes I can read mail ... or watch korgforums. _________________

Well, having had a synth catch fire several years ago (DX7), I never leave any kit on when not in use. Luckily the all-important smoke detectors prevented a possible disaster...
Bit of a pain, but the longest start-up time is on my M3 and it's only about a minute. _________________ CURRENT GEAR: A yellowing Casio PT-80, 4 leaking batteries and some broken headphones.

I believe I will jump on the "turn it off when not in use" bandwagon; seems like the wisest course of action. _________________ Kronos 2 61, Wavestation A/D, Yamaha Genos and others. |

I power everything down after use. Yes I too know that cycling is not a great thing but I do not want to waste energy - yes I am one of those "green" types.
I also agree from a non-environmental standpoint that the fan is mechanical and mechanical parts WILL wear out. So the fan is good for LONG composition sessions at home or three hour gigs on the road but I do not think it is robust enough to be running 24/7.
