Does anyone know a fast way to initialize a program to blank settings, prior to programming a sound from scratch?

When I select a different EXi, that initializes all the parameters within that EXi, but still leaves the common program settings, FX configuration, etc, set to whatever the previously selected program was using.

I guess I could set up my own blank program just to use as a starting point, but perhaps there is an easier way I am missing?

I don't think there is. I used to wonder why they didn't have an initialize program option even on the m3...

but you can just save a blank one and then always save the blank one to a space when you are ready to start from scratch...
