Do SSD drives vary that much in speed? |
They can. I believe the Toshiba SSD that's in Kronos is one of the older generation SSD drives that does some 150-180 MB/s sustained read speed (Toshiba didn't make an SSD since 2009 I think, and that's old already). Newer SSDs utilizing SATAIII can spurt over 280 MB/s sustained, and some SSDs with internal RAID can go way over 400 MB/s!
BUT, since Kronos doesn't have SATAIII bus, putting a faster SSD inside wouldn't change a darn thing, load times would still be more or less the same. The bus speed can make even the fastest hard drive seem slow, if it's slow (the chain is as strong as its weakest link). |

Kronos loads no faster than OASYS so I'm not sure even that drive speed is the weak point. |

Do you mean on startup or loading files during use? |

Thank you for your valuable hint, ix studio.
You seem to know a lot about software in modern synths!
I bought a Kronos and haven't even noticed that I was robbed.
What am I supposed to do now?
Would stop having fun with the best allround keyboard out there immediately help?

It's not all that easy. Besides the quite perfect (or at least designed) interaction between this computer, keyboard etc it needs a lot of design time. The OS has been redesigned or at least patched, every element has to be checked if it can cooperate with all others so there are none or no real problems. Then Korg has to make a user interface and make sure everything is coupled well. And test time is enormous.
I know of course will have quite some money for each sold Kronos but if you want a single machine for a studio or gigging or a 'normal' pc/mac with all possible problems you have to fix yourself and possible unreliability, I guess lots of people look for the first.
Some people buy a Mac which is much more expensive than a (Windows) PC, but then you get a better package that belongs together since Apple picks and tests the hardware. And I like hardware synthesizers because they are reliable and every part fits together. For a pc I don't mind if it crashes once a while (tough it happens seldom btw). But I want to select my own software/hardware with a result of possible problems as a consequence to solve myself. _________________

Well, I got my 2GB stick ordered. I'm now waiting patiently for Korg to declare it a legal upgrade so I can have an authorized service center put it in my Kronos for me.

|

Hello Friends!
I am asking myself if after upgrading to 4gb of ram it will speed the overall procesing in the kronos like most PC does?
IS 4gb of ram will help the D510MO to work a little faster ? Do you think so?
People who upgraded to 4gb do you fell any change - speed - benchmark - flow speed - difference?
There is a lot of kind of Memory witch is the best? Low CL or high quality Ram will speed process????
thanks you all |

In short: no. It will just allow you to load more samples. That's it. |

Which, in itself is a good enough reason for upgrading the RAM, but ONLY if you REALLY need to... don't do it just for the sake of it, as it may not even be necessary for your personal workflow. _________________ Synth DIY Projects |

I made a little video to show how to upgrade to 4BG RAM. I just did it recently and it's actually quite safe if you know how to use both your hands, assuming you do so if you have a Kronos =)
