There is a small inexpensive device (around $50) available that works with USB slave devices (such as Pa1x Hard disk) that enables them to be used with Jump/Flash/Thumb drives. Its called a USB Drive Bridge or Data Copier. Its battery powered and is about the size of a cigarette pack.
I have not tried one but according to the specs it looks promising.
See http://www.macally.com/spec/usb/input_device/syncbox2.html
or see http://www.xs-drive.com/xsdrivebridge100/

Has anyone out there tried one of these?
If they work it could be $50 well spent.
Regards,
John

Hi John

How can you control the "destinations" when copying data (particularly to the PA1XPro)? I am not sure what would happen on the HDD.... I just can't see this working......

Cheers

Doesn´t work fine - more awful - i think you can forget this topic - will not work - i agree to Pete.

karmathanever,
One of the devices has an LCD display that lets you choose directories or files - I still think it might work.

What is the point? Confused This will benefit people who have no HDD only, but the comms is between USB and HDD so without it there is none;

For moving files about it's far easier to use the FD or CD - am I missing something here? Seems totally pointless.

Many of us don't have the CD drive and Floppys are next to useless for large file sizes or for those without a floppy drive on their computer (which is becoming universal). If your computer is close to your Pa1x then the I agree that just using your cable is the easiest option. But it would be great to be able to download say a new set at work, wack it onto a Thumb drive and be able to plug this into your Pa1x without the need of a computer nearby.
Regarding Wittids comments about having tried similar devices I was wondering how long ago. Possibly some of the more recent ones might work.
Thanks for all your comments. I'm still tempted to try the one with the LCD display.
Cheers,
John

Hi, guys!

A 25$$ "All-in-1 USB 2.0 Internal Card Reader for 3.5 inch bay" and of course some minor OS updates from Korg engineer team in the next release (3.1) will do the perfect job for all of us. Just forget the floppys & CDs.....

The Pa1X users might benefit this:

- Tones of GB space for very fast access on USB memory stick.
- Tones of GB space for very fast access on Compact Flash (CF).
- At least 32 more style locations assigned to the already dedicated floppy switch on the panel and why not using this media to keep your favorite MP3s & sound samples sets for fast access and PLEASE... NEVER MORE have to think about loading your favorite sounds into those 32MB of oldfashion RAM. Just take a look att these links:

Thanks, Tascone.

Hi Tascone,

It's a great idea. I would love to have a card or pen drive interface for backup purposes and even to swap midi compositions with other local musicians.

But even though the card reader you found appears to interface to a PC via a floppy cable and is therefore phyically and electrically interchengeable with the FDD drive on the Pa1x, we would still need our friends in Korg to write a device driver specific to the Pa1x.

Is this a possibility for OS version 4?

Users take out the FDD drive and swap it for a universal card reader, then OS version 4 upgrades can be downloaded to a pen drive or flash card, and the Pa1x boots from that instead of floppies?

Best regards,
Rob

Imagine how good it would be if one of these multi drives (Floppy, and Media Card Reader in one) could be swapped into the unit for $26.
See:http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1265795
With this Korg could still be selling the Pa1x for another 10 years!!
Cheers,
John

Nice thought, but the Pa1x doesn't have a USB2 master interface that the card reader requires ...
