ok,

im new to drum machines to bear with me..

i want to get a good drum machine and i really like how the esx-1 sounds,

im saving my money to get, so i was thinking maybe i should rent a drum machine so i kinda have half a clue on how to use the korg later,,, so i rented the roland sp-606

which turned out to be complete garbage.

the dude said it was a drum machine/sampler, and there is not a single drum preset on it

so i was wondering

im not really into sampling, i could care less on that.. i just need something to makes nice industrial beats that a drum kit CANT do.

on the esx-1, you can use that as a drum machine right?

as in preseting a kick drum, snare, tom etc and play it on record?

im sorry if this question is a little naive or dumb, but i have to ask this before i buy it.

i just want a good drum machine thats easy to use that isnt too complicated.

basically, i just want to preset the drum samples and record it

I think if you're not into sampling then you're looking at the completely wrong product (ESX) the EMX has a few default drum sounds that you can't change. However most of the industrial beats I listen to are real percussion or high quality percussion samples that are fired through effects like distortion, theres heaps of variations though (it depends what industrial you like...ministry/nin/rammstein/fischerspooner/prodigy etc). In fact the ESX would be perfect for "sampled" industrial because you could load up the samples of most other drum machines. I think for industrial beats sampled beats are great, they will sound better than synthy ones, however if you want a hassle free super beat machine that can sound almost real but totally weird too try this one:

i checked it out, but its a little too pricey on my end... what about the the blue esx?

i heard that its pretty good for drum machine...

i just need simple yet tweakable beats... no sampling, just straight bump.

I have both the ESX and the EMX and both would be great for what you're looking to do. The ESX comes with plenty of factory samples similar to the PCMs in the EMX, so, out of the box either will do what you are asking for. If you aren't interested in sampling in the future, get the EMX. I used to own the Machine Drum by Elektron, and it only hase two measures per pattern sequence. I need at least four. The EMX/ESX has eight. On the Machine Drum I was able to create the sickest drum sounds I've ever heard. Some of the best sounding equipment just doesn't fit in with the way I work, and if it doesn't get used it gets sold.
