I had exactly the the same problem with a "refurbished" K88 some years ago...this was when Korg had just come out with the replacement (blue) contact strips, so it took me a couple of months ...

Some thoughts / things to try: hook up a MIDI monitor to see exactly what MIDI messages are sent when you push Split and Stack at the same time...the Prophet can be set to send either MIDI CC or NRPNs ...
