True, the MOSS board is an add-on, and sampling isn't that great unless you top out the memory and make use of media to save it all.

Hmm... I just tried it again, and was able to reproduce it using some synth sounds that I sampled and then programmed into the E bank. I wonder if my issue is only reproduce-able using the sample RAM? ...

That's weird - I just tried it and can't seem to duplicate it. I know there was a way before that I could always get it to detune intentionally. And it wasn't a good detune...
